Vikings News · Fall Sports 2019 Online Registration

The online registration window for Fall 2019 sports at Whitman will open on July 15th!  Fall sports are scheduled to begin for most sports on Wednesday, August 14th. Below is information on registration and Fall sports tryouts that parents and students need to know.

Here is a memo from MCPS on the online registration process: Letter-myMCPS-Fall-2019-Online-Registration-for-Athletics .

How do I register for Fall 2019 sports?

PARENTS may register students through the myMCPS Parent Portal. The registration window will open on July 15th. Registration should be done online by August 12th to ensure that it is processed in time for the student to be able to participate in tryouts on the first day. (Registration will remain open after August 12th, but waiting until after that date may delay your student’s ability to tryout).

What if the parent needs login information or to add a student to the parent account?

Parents may email Whitman Athletic Director, Andy Wetzel for login information. Parents may also contact the Main Office (240-740-4800) for login information.

Will the student need a Physical Clearance Form (Physical)?

Yes, students need an up to date physical to participate in athletics. If a student already has a physical on file at the school, it is good for one calendar year. Otherwise, the student will need an updated physical, completed by a physician. Parents can download the Physical Clearance Form. There are two ways to submit the Physical Clearance Form: by scanning it and uploading it during the online registration process, or by scanning it and emailing it to Whitman Athletic Director, Andy Wetzel .  This must be completed before tryouts.
*Note: Students entering Whitman for the first time should plan to submit a new Physical Clearance Form for the season. Medical records from middle schools and for transferring students likely have not yet been filed at Whitman in time for August tryouts. Middle School physicals and camp physicals are not accepted by MCPS for participation in HS athletics.  You must use form SR-8.

What if I completed the online registration process last year?

If a parent registered a student online last year, the parent must complete the registration process again for the Fall 2019 season. The good news is that most of the information entered in the previous registration will have saved and will be pre-populated, which will make the process easier in the current season.

Does MCPS have more detailed directions for how to use the myMCPS portal and register online?

Yes! More detailed directions can be found here.

Where can I find information about tryouts at Whitman?

Information about tryouts can be found on the Tryouts page of the Whitman website. For most Fall sports, tryouts will begin on August 14th. More sport-specific information, such as tryout times and schedules and coach contact information can be found on this page. Information will be updated as it gets closer to the tryout date.  Please contact sport specific coaches for more information.

What if my student is not available on the scheduled tryout date(s)?

We encourage all students who intend to tryout for a sport to be present on the scheduled tryout dates. However, we also recognize that there may be some unavoidable conflicts. If this is the case, please contact the coach of the sport in advance to communicate the conflict and see if there is an alternative way of trying out after August 14th (tryouts may not begin before August 14th). Coach contact information can be found on our Tryouts page or on our Coaching Staff page.

Where can I find game/contest schedules posted for the Fall 2019 school year?

Schedules for games/contests will not become available until late July. Once they are finalized by MCPS, game/contest schedules will be posted on our website and CountySportszone.

What if I have additional questions?

If you are having trouble either with the myMCPS Parent Portal or the online registration process, please contact Whitman Athletic Director Andy Wetzel. If you have a sport-specific question, please contact the coach. Coach contact information can be found on our Tryouts page or on our Coaching Staff page.
